Sage Lodge is located on a bluff overlooking the beautiful Paradise Valley and the mighty Yellowstone River while the 10,926 foot Emigrant Peak and Absaroka mountain range looms in the background. At Sage Lodge you can enjoy the great outdoors by day and then return to after a day on the water to pamper yourself with a full service spa, locally sourced dining, and luxury accommodations.
Ideally situated for quick and easy access for any number of days of guided fly fishing on the Yellowstone River, world famous spring creeks (Depuy's, Armstrong's, or Nelson's), inside Yellowstone National Park itself, as well as the Boulder, Stillwater, and various other private ranch waters. The Yellowstone drainage is the stronghold for the wild and native Yellowstone Cutthroat trout (and don't forget about the always present Rocky Mountain Whitefish), as well as an abundance of wild browns and rainbows.
Sage Lodge accommodations consist of luxurious main lodge rooms each with a gas fireplace and a semi private balcony or deck overlooking the lodge's private stocked pond. In addition to the main lodge there are four spacious ranch house style cabins with four separate guest rooms in each. The ranch house can be rented as a single unit or as singular rooms. The lodge accommodations are accompanied by two different dining and bar areas. The Fireside room is located in the main lodge and The Grill is set a short walk from your room in a separate building that also has plenty of meeting space and a large event room.

Fishing
Sage Lodge is conveniently located on the banks of the Yellowstone River in the heart of Paradise Valley between Yellowstone National Park and the small town of Livingston. The world renowned Yellowstone River is an obvious fishing venue from this location, but many smaller and lesser known public and private waters are within an easy day trip from the lodge as well.
Yellowstone River
This legendary river is best floated. It provides outstanding fishing from its headwaters in Yellowstone Park all the way to beyond Columbus. From Yellowstone Valley Lodge we can fish both the "Upper Yellowstone" from Yellowstone Park to the town of Livingston with a nice mic of rainbows, browns, and cutthroat trout, as well as the "Lower Yellowstone" from Livingston to Columbus where huge browns and big rainbows wait. A variety of hatches come off in the spring and early summer followed by outstanding terrestrial fishing with hoppers, ants and beetles in the late summer and early fall. Late season produces some huge pre spawn brown trout on streamers and big nymphs.
Boulder River
Below the 300 foot water fall at the Natural Bridge the Boulder enters big ranch country but doesn't loose its fast pocket water nature. Browns and rainbows dominate hear and dry fly fishing remains our favorite technique. Larger trout in the 16-18" range are common and fish over 20" are regularly caught on the lower floats near the Yellowstone. This water is often floated in the summer using our skilled guides and customized rafts with fishing frames, seats and anchor systems.
Livingston Spring Creeks
For anglers that wan't to test their skill on some of the most prolific and technical waters in the world we can visit the famous spring creeks just north of the lodge including DePuy, Nelson and Armstrong. These wade fishing streams are born from underground springs and are infested with aquatic insects and other macroinvertebrates that result in an amazing density of trout. Hatches on the creeks are spectacular but expect to work hard to fool the often highly selective trout.
Yellowstone National Park
Less than an hour south of the lodge, Yellowstone Park offers abundant small stream dry fly fishing options throughout the summer and fall. These waters offer opportunity to build in some variety to your fishing itinerary and we often do a fair amount of hiking to target the less fished waters in the northeast corner of Yellowstone Park. This is a great location to target native Yellowstone Cutthroat trout.
Private Ranches - Montana Angler leases several ranches and has permission on a few others within an hour drive of the lodge that offer intimate and lightly pressured fishing opportunities on small but productive wading streams and a few trophy stillwaters.
