The Rio Palena Lodge is set in a pristine Andean mountain valley on the banks of the trout-rich Rio Palena. This riverfront lodge features angling adventures on the Rio Palena and a variety of other nearby rivers, lakes, and streams. Anglers can float or walk-and-wade right out the front door or enjoy heli-angling opportunities and then return to a lodge that is purpose built as a destination fishing and adventure lodge for fly fishing in Chile. The Rio Palena and the surrounding waters are known for producing very large trout. Large flies, unpressured waters, and the feeling of wilderness permeate each unique day when fishing and staying at Rio Palena Lodge.
Rivers here flow through wild scenery back-dropped by snow-capped mountains. The trout in these waters grow fast, large, and strong. A Chile fly fishing trip at Rio Palena Lodge features a fishing program with a nice mix of quantity and quality—some days are spent catching and release lots of good-sized rainbow and brown trout while others are focused on finding, catching, fighting, and landing large, trophy-sized trout pushing the 10-pound plus barrier.
To accompany the varied and plentiful fishing opportunities, the Rio Palena Lodge has perfected a suite of non-angling activities. From whitewater rafting, mountain biking, paddleboarding, heli-tours, and more, the Rio Palena Lodge is ideally suited for non-anglers, groups, and families. The fully renovated lodge's amenities and professionally prepared meals and wine pairings match that of other world-class fishing opportunities.

Fishing
Rivers
The Rio Palena is the main fishery and for good reason. There are several floats within an easy drive from the lodge, including floats that start or end at the lodge. The Rio Palena is a medium freestone river flowing through a few small canyons. The river is ideal for all levels of anglers and for fishing large dry flies, streamers, or subsurface nymph rigs. With abundant good-sized rainbow trout and opportunities for trophy-sized brown trout, the Rio Palena is an engaging river serviced by some of Chile's most experienced guides.
Helicopter Fly Fishing
With a helicopter on site, each Rio Palena Chile fly fishing trip gets one day of heli-angling. The heli-angling program at Rio Palena Lodge allows anglers to fish and explore a variety of lakes and smaller waters. For fishing the lakes, the lodge has left drift boats at the lakes for comfort and increased access. The unpressured smaller rivers and creeks accessed by heli-angling feature a variety of catch rates and sizes of wild trout.
Guides
The guides at the Rio Palena Lodge are highly experienced and excellent oarsmen. They take pride in putting you on the water that is fishing the best at the time of your trip.
Non Fishing Activities
The program at Rio Palena Lodge is as much designed for anglers as it is non-anglers. Non anglers can enjoy an array of adventure offerings, with customized itineraries available. Whether hiking on a remote glacier or dormant volcano, or whitewater rafting or standup paddleboarding on a world-class river, non-anglers will be well cared for and well-adventured. Mountain biking and hiking through the jungle can also be arranged.
